Although Kenya borders the “birthplace” of coffee (Ethiopia), they actually didn’t start selling coffee until hundreds of years after people first started to do so. It’s interesting that the coffee trees grown in Kenya now traveled the around world and were cultivated in different places before returning to Africa to become one of the most sought after growing regions.
Kapsakisio is in the northern part of Kenya, which is a lesser known region than the more popular central Kenya coffees. Grown on the slopes of Mt. Elgon, the volcanic soil is fertile and rich with just the right amount of elevation, perfect for growing coffee. Each day during the harvest, this wet processed coffee is picked, depulped, fermented overnight, washed, soaked, then spread onto drying tables.
This coffee is complex with a lighter body. It has notes of dried fruit, golden raisins, fig, bergamot and subtle grapefruit.
